the balance of this "neighborhood" of marvel ships was thrown out of harmony once marvel decided to play russian roullete with natasha and break up clintasha's soulmatism to throw her at random dudes in various media (bruce, bucky, etc)
someone in charge over there needs to be brave enough to restore the original balance and stop all the fighting
Sorry for the late reply, I fail so hard at tumblr these days!
I’m not sure what prompted this ask, but I definitely agree that Clint and Natasha are soulmates, and it’s down right criminal that nobody at Marvel seems willing to give them an honest shot in modern comics. Every time we get the slightest bit of hope a new writer takes over, or somebody (usually Natasha) ends up dead and I’m just so tired.
Not to mention that right now, with the mindset the characters are currently in, is the perfect time! On one side we have Clint who has shown to be less of a stickler for morality lately (Freefall, Black Widow 2020), so I feel like he’d be more accepting of Natasha’s more extreme methods at times. On the other we have Natasha, who is trying to be “better”, to only kill when absolutely necessary. I think if they were to try a relationship now, it could possibly work out for them. b*ckyn*t is a ship that holds both characters back, and they are simply way too similar, but there is so much good story potential for Clintasha, we just need a writer who is willing to take it on.
And because I read Daisy Jones & the Six recently and this quote jumped out at me as perfectly describing Clintasha and why they are THE best ship for both characters, I’m gonna end my rant with this:
“I used to think soul mates were two of the same. I used to think I was supposed to look for somebody that was just like me. I don’t believe in soul mates anymore and I’m not looking for anything. But if I did believe in them, I’d believe your soul mate was somebody who had all the things you didn’t, that needed all of the things you had. Not somebody who’s suffering from the same stuff you are.”
I have some Clintasha artworks but I’m not gonna lie, I’m too lazy to dig for links so I’m reposting them below (I’m also reposting some artworks with Clint and his friends including Wanda, Sam, Bucky, etc…)
can you or someone you know explain me why are Clint and Natasha soulmates? i've seen on Tumblr many people saying this. but i'm not really familiar with the comics. i'm currently reading captain america vol 5 so i don't know much about comic Clint but Bucky seems more - at least so far - like a soulmate to Nat for me because of their backstory
First, let me be clear that my ship to end all ships is ClintBarton/Phil Coulson, and that my number one Natasha Romanoff ship is NatashaRomanoff/Bucky Barnes. Despite these ships Clint Barton and Natasha Romanoff
will always be soulmates to me. Why? Why are these two dorks soulmates?
So. When I started this blog, I didn’t want to talk too much about Natasha’s love life, because ~conventional wisdom~ made her out to be some kind of perpetual girlfriend, and there’s not enough eyeroll.gif on the internet.
But it’s hot outside and I’m bored and I feel like writing about Clint Barton so here’s #1 in a slowly-produced tumblr series.
This is in some ways the toughest relationship of Natasha’s to characterize, because it’s confined entirely to the Silver Age, where rule of melodrama meant characters could fall in breathless love in the space of two panels and the Hulk could change color between issues. And in some ways, Clint and Natasha were a very Silver Age Marvel couple, burdened with melancholy and overburdened with thought balloons; it was kind of abusive if you looked at it too closely.

The issue I have with romantic ships like Clintasha, Steve x Bucky, and Sam x Bucky - is that they undercut the beauty of true platonic friendship.
Clintasha falls right into the old adage that “men and women can’t just be friends.” Why can’t they just love and support each other without it being romantic? Additionally, Clintasha spits in the face of Laura, who is obviously cool as sh*t! Laura is dope as hell and I will slap anyone who says otherwise.
Steve x Bucky/Sam x Bucky - Why can’t we celebrate real and true male friendship? It’s deep and it’s caring and beautiful. I want people to celebrate platonic male love… Marvel does a great job showing it and it is a great example to us all that men can be vulnerable with each other.
I’m not trying to sh*t on anyone’s ship. I am all for doing what makes you happy and brings you joy in this endless hellscape.
I just get sad when friendship is not valued on the same level as romantic love.
Please don’t take this as an attack, but I see people say this about Clintasha and there is just so much history and nuance that has to be left out for this claim.
The thing with Clintasha is that if you know their history they don’t fit the “men and women can’t be friends” thing at all. They were romantic since their creation in 1964, and have been together in more universes in different mediums than even some of the most well known Marvel ships. It does not “spit in the face of Laura”, if anything her very existence spits in the face of Clintasha, as they were the original plan for the MCU, even the actors were expecting it to happen, until Whedon pulled a whole farm family out of the air to get Clint out of the way of his own self insert fantasy ship, and as a gross and misogynistic parallel to Natasha’s infertility.
If they wanted to show that men and women could be friends, they already had that with Natasha and Steve, and could have built up a friendship with Natasha and Bruce, or with any of the other male Avengers. If you have to put both characters in other relationships to prove they can be just friends then you’re doing it wrong. And none of this is even getting into how the Clintasha ship would have actually benefited both characters, instead of the ‘canon’ ships they got stuck with that actually harmed them both.
I’m a big fan of male/female friendships, and totally understand when people prefer Clintasha that way, but shipping them romantically does not undercut platonic ships. I hope this helps in understanding why people love them together, and I would gladly go further on any point I touched on here!

NATASHA ROMANOFF saving her family in BLACK WIDOW and AVENGERS: ENDGAME
Ok but remember when the avengers ask if she had any family we know of and Barton says yeaaah usssssssss!!! I meaaaaan!! They didn’t know, nobody knew!!! Fuckkk!! We had a whole ass funeral scene for Iron Man but we couldn’t have one for her… :(
Wasn’t it Steve that said that? I only watched it once ‘cause why would I put myself through that film again, but the way I see it Clint is the only one who knows, but it’s not his place to say anything. If Natasha chose not to tell the others after all these years then why should he tell them after she’s gone? That’s my headcanon at least ‘cause I just can’t accept that Clint didn’t know, it would just make zero sense to me, but I’m also biased af lol
